Coconut oil, or copraoil, is an edible oil extracted from the kernel or meat of mature coconutsharvested from the coconut palm. It has various applications as food or incosmetics. Coconut oil is extracted by the cold pressed method.

Coconut oil is used for diabetes, heart disease, chronic fatigue, Crohn'sdisease, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Alzheimer's disease, thyroidconditions, energy, and boosting the immune system. Ironically, despite coconutoil's high calorie and saturated fat content, some people use it to lose weightand lower cholesterol. Coconut oil is sometimes applied to the skin as amoisturizer and to treat a skin condition called psoriasis. It is widely usedas a hair nourishing oil.
